History

The Templar Asylum illustrates
16th Century French Renaissance style
as interpreted in the 1920’s. The room is
70 feet long, 40 feet wide, with a ceiling
Height of 25 feet. It is almost completely
Preserved. Every surface illustrates a painting
technique.

The focal point is the proscenium
designed with modified composite-style
columns. There are symbols of the Scottish
Rite order, which also used this room in 1926
when the building opened. In 1970 when the
New Scottish Rite Cathedral facing Hamilton
Street was completed.

The flags displayed on the balcony are
from 1987, commemorating the Bicentennial of
the U.S. Constitution, which received several
national recognitions.
